Accelerated Driver’s License Program (ADLP) 

Q: What is the ADLP?

A 4-week program helping drivers obtain their Texas driver’s license by providing structured support through online driver’s education, road testing, and scheduled DPS appointments. 

Q: Who is eligible to apply? 

Applicants must: 

● Be at least 18 years old 

● Have 30+ hours of behind-the-wheel driving experience and confidently complete all tasks listed in our Driving Experience Readiness Checklist.

● Commit to full participation in all four weeks of the program–including attending every scheduled class, DPS visit, and road test appointment.  

Q: Can SDDA teach me how to drive?

South Dallas Driving Academy (SDDA) is not a driving school. We do not teach people how to drive. We focus on removing barriers that prevent underserved communities from obtaining a driver’s license. 

Q: What documents do I need? 

● Original birth certificate (copies are not accepted) 

● Social Security card 

● Two printed proofs of residency dated within the last 90 days. Acceptable forms include a piece of mail, utility bill, paycheck stub, or bank statement. Screenshots or digital copies are not accepted.

Q: What if I’m missing a document?

You must have all required documents before participating in the program. We can provide guidance and refer you to resources to help you obtain any missing documents. 

Q: What if I don’t have 30 hours of driving experience yet?

We can help you obtain your learner’s permit so you can practice legally and build the required driving experience. 

Q: Is there a cost to participate?

There is no cost to you. The program is fully subsidized for eligible participants. 

Q: How do I join the program?

Complete the online application. Our team will review it thoughtfully and reach out to those selected to continue. Unfortunately, we are limited in who we can accept.

Commercial Driver’s License Program (CDLP) 

Q: What is the CDLP? 

A 4-week program helping drivers obtain their Texas driver’s license by providing structured support through online driver’s education, road testing, and scheduled DPS appointments. 

Q: Who is eligible to apply? 

Applicants must: 

● Be at least 18 years old 

● Pass a DOT physical exam 

● Have a clean driving record and no unresolved tickets   

Q: Do I need a Texas driver’s license before getting a Commercial Driver’s License? 

Yes. A valid Texas driver’s license is required before you can obtain a CDL. If you don’t have one yet, you can apply to our ADLP Program

Q: What documents do I need? 

● Original birth certificate (copies are not accepted) 

● Social Security card
